JAMES NACHTWEY I 60 MINUTES CBS I RE-AIRED.

With a career spanning over four decades, James Nachtwey has become renowned for his powerful and thought-provoking images that capture the human condition in times of conflict and crisis.

After decades of seeing some of the worst in humanity, Cooper asked Nachtwey if he was optimistic about the human species.

"I don't know if 'optimism' is exactly the right word, but in these horrible situations, we see everyday citizens doing remarkable things for each other," Nachtwey said. "Mothers and fathers are my heroes: what they do for their children, how they protect them. Being in places where people have next to nothing and yet, anything they have, they offer to a stranger. Those are the things that we all have and that are displayed in the worst situations that make me believe in humanity."

NICK BRANDT I FINAL DAYS I THE DAY MAY BREAK

SLIPERIET - BORGVIK - ENDS 31ST OF AUGUST

The Day May Break, an exhibition of new works, was photographed in Zimbabwe and Kenya in late 2020 and Bolivia in 2022. It is the first part of a global series portraying people and animals that have been impacted by environmental degradation and destruction. The people in the photos have all been badly affected by climate change - some displaced by cyclones that destroyed their homes, others such as farmers displaced and impoverished by years-long severe droughts.

LENE MARIE FOSSEN I HUMAN
From September 30th in Sankta Maria Domkyrka - Visby - Gotland

The exhibition Lene Marie Fossen – Human presents the urgent self-portraits of Norwegian photographer Lene Marie Fossen (1986-2019) in Sweden for the very first time.

Even though it is highly topical, the subject of anorexia is taboo. Fossen rejected the linear course of time that forced her into puberty and stopped eating at the age of ten. She struggled with anorexia for the rest of her life. Fossen decided to be open about her disorder and showed her works publicly. And she demanded to be seen as a photographer: “I’m primarily an artist, and then I’m sick. My work is not about eating disorders. It’s about human suffering.” On Chios in 2015, she took photographs of stranded refugee children and elderly people. Her focus was always on the question of what it means to be human.

The prize-winning documentary film Self Portrait, directed by Margreth Olin, Katja Høgset, and Espen Wallin (2019, Speranza Film), will tour Gotland in October.

VEE SPEERS I FINAL DAYS I METAMORPHOSIS

FESTIVAL PHOTO LA GACILLY - ENDS OCTOBER.

Every summer, from June to September, the Breton village of La Gacilly transforms its gardens, alleys and alleys into natural galleries dedicated to photography. The festival is the largest outdoor festival in France, celebrating its 20th edition this year with the theme; La Nature en héritage.

Vee Speers' works in Gacilly are drawn from four of her recent series, exploring her reflections on the female body: its evolution, sometimes its rebirth, and above all its relationship with the natural world.
