- In what way does your chosen piece for HRW reflect 2020?

The recent Himalayan glacier disaster highlights climate change risks. My piece ”Give me your Word - Ama Dablam’ depicts both the magnificent beauty and tender fragility of nature.

- In what way is art a tool for activism?

I am a creativity activist, and to me, it is evident that we need to raise the level of creativity of the next generation in order to reach new solutions to old problems. Art is a brilliant tool to democratize and fuel creativity.

BIO

Known for his large-scale, kaleidoscopic photographs of landscapes and cityscapes, Jacob Felländer uses manipulated analogue cameras to capture multiple exposures in a single image. Felländer has traveled extensively and experimented with capturing the entire world on a single, multi-exposed negative, as well as incorporating drawing and painting into his photography. “When is an image more a film than a photograph? When is a photograph more a painting than a photograph? The border territory fascinates me,” he has said. Felländer’s influences include Turner, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Anselm Kiefer, and Robert Frank.
